A is for Assessment….
This is an important part of the journey to becoming a foster carer, as it establishes a recorded process about you.
Your family, including extended family, where relevant
Your home and its suitability for fostering
Your marriage or partnership (if a couple)
Your attitudes to parenting
Your reflections on how you were parented
Your relevant skills, knowledge and experience
Anything else about your background (more here)
Police and Local Authority checks (more here)
Your support network
How you manage stress
Once your application to become a foster carer has been accepted by Chrysalis Care, you are assigned an Independent Assessor, who is a qualified social worker. They will meet with you regularly and will document everything in a report, commonly known as a ‘Form F’. This report is later presented to a panel, who decides upon your approval to foster children and young people.
As much as this process is in-depth and may be outside of your comfort zone, initially, it can also be a fantastic opportunity for self development and growth and serves as a wonderful foundation for being a foster parent.
